Abbas Kiarostami: A Report is a documentary about the Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, produced and directed by Bahman Maghsoudlou. The film looks at Kiarostami's career, finding themes and stylistics that have reoccurred throughout his canon, from his early shorts to his later international successes, with a special focus on his first feature, 1977's The Report. The film features interviews with a number of people who worked on the film, including Academy Award-nominated actress Shohreh Aghdashloo, and commentary by, among others, Godfrey Cheshire III, Richard Peña, and the late Andrew Sarris.
Bahman Maghsoudlou (born in Gorgan, Iran, 1946) is a film scholar, critic, and independent film producer/director, and is the recipient of Iran's Forough Farrokhzad literary award for writing and editing a series of books about cinema and theater. Maghsoudlou has directed and/or produced series of a short documentaries on Iranian artists, including "Ardeshir Mohasses & His Caricatures" (1972), "Ahmad Shamlou: Master Poet of Liberty" (1998), "Ahmad Mahmoud: A Noble Novelist" (2004), and "Iran Darroudi: The Painter of Ethereal Moments" (2009). "Abbas Kiarostami: A Report" (2013) is the most recent addition to the series, and his first feature length documentary.
Maghsoudlou is a graduate in cinema studies from the College of Staten Island with a PhD from Columbia University, Maghsoudlou lives in New Jersey.
