Description:

Politics & Prose at Busboys and Poets, 14th & V, presents Rachel Feingold and Roman Kostovski to discuss Hana Andronikova's The Sound of the Sundial.

Plamen Press, named for the Slavic word for “flame,” is dedicated to making Eastern European literature available to readers of English. Join Feingold, Plamen’s editor-in-chief, and Kostovski, a translator who is also the press’s director, for a celebration of the first English-language edition of this novel by the late Czech writer, Hana Andronikova. Winner of the Magnesia Litera Award in 2002—her country’s highest literary honor—Andronikova’s novel unfolds over the course of a day and a night, yet spans twentieth-century events from a Czech village in the 1920s to Calcutta in the 1930s, from war-torn Europe to post-war Canada and on to contemporary Denver.
