Description:

Politics & Prose at Busboys and Poets, Takoma, presents Sandra Moore and Kazumi Wilds to discuss their new book, The Peace Tree from Hiroshima.

For over 300 years, a certain Japanese white pine flourished in the care of the Yamaki family, who passed down the art of bonsai from generation to generation. Then, in 1945, war came to the doorstep of the Yamakis’ home with the atomic bombing of Hiroshima by the United States. Miraculously, both the Yamakis and this special white pine survived. This is the little tree’s story of its life, and how it found a new home in the very country that threatened its survival.
