Politics & Prose at Busboys and Poets, Brookland, present John DeFerrari to discuss his new book Capital Streetcars: Early Mass Transit in Washington, D.C.
In his third book-length foray into local history, DeFerrari, Secrets of Washington blogger and author of Lost Washington D.C. and Historic Restaurants of Washington D.C., looks back to the golden age of the area’s streetcars. First up and running during the Civil War, the city’s original streetcars were horse-drawn. As the vehicles grew more powerful, the network expanded, giving urbanites easy access to suburban sites like Glen Echo.
