For readers who have to grow up--yet can’t quite leave the fantastic worlds of Narnia or Hogwarts—Grossman’s kingdom of Fillory and the legendary Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy have been a saving grace. The conclusion to the story of Quentin Coldwater that began with Magicians and unwound through the Magician King finds the erstwhile monarch living in New York, searching for a particular suitcase, and trying to work out how to found a new kingdom if, as appears to be the case, Fillory is about to meet an apocalyptic end.
