"The Era of Modernism is a bilingual program presenting the research Ana Maria Ruimonte, Spanish soprano and scholar. The program focuses on the development of the Modernist movement among Spanish, American and Latin American poets and composers. We present poems by José Martí, Walt Whitman and Juan Ramón Jiménez, and hear them set in songs by Cuba's leading twentieth century classical (and popular) composer Ernesto Lecuona, Cuban composer/pianist Huberal Herrera, Spain's Joaquín Rodrigo (best known for his Concierto de Aranjuez) and Cuban-American composer Aurelio de la Vega. The program also includes presentation of Ms. Ruimonte's interview with Aurelio de la Vega, and the projection of a concert at the Festival de Música Contemporánea in Havana featuring Ms. Ruimonte with pianist Herrera and a chamber ensemble featuring material from her latest CD releases Sencillamente Martí (recent recipient of an award from SGAE, the Spanish Society of Authors and Composers. The program also includes selections from Ms. Ruimonte's highly-praised releases Con Rodrigo en Cuba and Rosas para Lecuona, both recorded in Havana. Finally, we will open the floor to discussion and questions."
