Description:

A DC Science Café Event… Join a discussion with Mark Eakin, coordinator of NOAA’s Coral Reef Watch about corals, their amazing diversity and biology, the threats they face, and how scientists are trying to help.

Corals are some of nature’s most amazing underwater creatures. These tiny organisms unite to form massive reef structures that are home to a vast array of marine life, support and protect coastal communities, drive medical advances, and astound us with their beauty. Corals are facing mounting pressures from a variety of stressors, including climate change. Warming ocean temperatures are causing mass coral bleaching events across the globe and scientists fear that 2015 may be a particularly bad year for coral health.

Free and open to the public.
