A Busboys and Poets event hosted this week by Morgan Butler
Morgan “Momo da Mermaid” Butler is a witchy writer, educator, and interdisciplinary artist from Washington, D.C. Her work primarily focuses on cultivating healing spaces for femmes of color in white/masc/het-dominated spaces, specifically through creative writing and radical healing. A 2018 Loft Literary Center Spoken Word Immersion Fellow, she has performed for TedxFoggyBottom, TV One’s Verses and Flow and has been welcomed into spaces at The White House, The Kennedy Center and the National Museum of African-American History and Culture. As an educator, she has led two workshops at Harvard University’s Alumni of Color Conference and has taught sessions on peace education and creative writing throughout the D.C, Maryland, Virginia area. Momo identifies as a queer, genderfluid femme, with she/they pronouns.

Tianna is a Queer, Black, woman, sister, and auntie originally from Anchorage, Alaska and is now residing in Oakland, California. She has been published in The Shade Journal, was the 2016 winner of Best Love poem at Collegiate Unions Poetry Slam Invitational, placed 5th at the National Poetry Slam 2017, 2018-2019 fellow at The Watering Hole, and a 2017 Queer Emerging Artist Resident at Destiny ARTS. She has a BA in Interdisciplinary studies and dreams of opening a creative arts youth center. Her work centers reclamation of the body, Black girl/womanhood, healing through generational trauma and shaking ass.
Tianna is a twerk influencer, Steven Universe lover and spends much of her free time admiring trees.

For two hours, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians, and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear.
$5 Cover. No refunds. Ticket purchase limit of 4 per person. Guests must have their wristbands (tickets) on upon entering the event.
Seating is available on a first-come, first-seated basis. No saved or reserved seats are allowed. Failure to check-in within 30 minutes of advertised start time may result in a forfeiture of seats.
