Born KaNikki Jakarta, being interpreted as “great writer” at birth, KaNikki is living up to her name. She is an Award Winning Poet who has traveled the US and UK as a performance poet. KaNikki has founded, facilitated, and/or hosted 15 presentations in the last 17 years ranging from open mics, award ceremonies, conferences, and workshops. With over 26 years of writing and almost 2 decades on the poetry scene, KaNikki has opened for Jill Scott, Raheem DaVaughn, and Lyfe Jennings. She has authored 3 works of fiction: IN REAL LIFE, THE COLOR BLUE, & THE OTHER SIDE OF PRETTY, 2 poetry collections: KaNikki Who? & The Skillz of a Sistah, a poetry cd: The Introduction of KaNikki Jakarta and a memoir: A Peace of Mine, How to be a wife of an Epileptic, Honor your Vows, and Honor Yourself. David Ross aka Native Son and Femi the Drifish, writers, performers, poets, emcees, creatives, Baltimore City residents’ representatives compose the powerful spoken word entity called THE 5th L. Their artistic abilities not only captivate a wide array of audiences through their theatrical stage shows but also address a variety of issues in their content that evokes emotions and reactions of all kinds. Deemed a socially charged spoken word performance superhero group with a Hip-hop beat and a poet’s tongue THE 5th L seek to provoke thought through poems and songs, and desire inspire the world by being inspiring with words.

For two hours, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices, and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear.

$5 cover. Wristbands are available for purchase online at midnight and in the restaurant starting at 10:00 AM (cash only). No refunds. Ticket purchase limit of 4 per person. Guests must have their wristbands (tickets) on upon entering the event.

Seating is available on a first come, first seated basis. No saved or reserved seats are allowed. Failure to check in within 30 minutes of advertised start time may result in forfeiture of seats.
