On International Women’s Day, join Busboys and Poets and Anotherway Now for a screening of the documentary Brave Girls, a film by Yashaswi Desai and Ellie Walton. This will be followed by a discussion with the filmmakers and special guests (further details to follow).
About the film:
BRAVE GIRLS documents the journey of three young women in one of the oldest towns in India who risk everything to start a new tradition. The opportunity to go back to school opened up the possibility for a different life for Karishma, Apsana and Samira. But even as they prepare for final exams, their families begin preparations for their weddings, threatening to pull them back into the prescribed roles of wives and mothers. Immediately, they are forced to choose between their evolving dreams and their obligations to the community they cherish. The stories of these extraordinary young women combine to illuminate the complexity that emerges on the path to self-determination.
