Description:

On January 9th 2020 The D.C. Humanities Council in conjunction with Ronald Smokey Stevens presents an Humanitini Event screening of the documentary "PRESERVING LEDROIT PARK" A Historic DC Community; researched, written, and produced by R. Smokey Stevens

Following the screening a panel of experts on the issue of gentrification and its effect on DC communities will have a discussion and take questions and comments from the audience.

The Joint Committee on Landmarks has designated The Ledroit Park community of N.W. Washington DC a Category 2 landmark of importance that contributes significantly to the cultural heritage and the visual beauty of the District of Columbia. This historic documentary chronicles the creation and the development of the community, and focuses on the contributions made by the Afro-Americans that have lived in Ledroit Park for over 100 years. It is because of their pioneering work that Ledroit Park has become an American treasure.

This event is free and open to the public and will be full-service throughout. We will be offering the signature cocktail, the Humanitini, for $8 all night long.
