The Costs of War Project invites you to a panel discussion with Hayder Al Mohammad and Mac Skelton. How are Iraqis maintaining their own lives and the lives of loved ones amidst the enduring consequences of two decades of wars? The speakers will highlight stories of individuals and communities living through the 1990-91 Gulf War, the 1990-2003 UN Sanctions, the 2003-2011 Invasion & Occupation, and the current situation with the emergence of ISIS. The findings of the Costs of War Project will be highlighted as part of the conversation.Â
Presenters:
Having spent over five years in Basra, Iraq, Dr. Hayder Al-Mohammad’s (U. Wisconsin-Madison, Dept. of Anthropology) work is focused on Iraqis’ struggles for livelihood amidst the turmoil of post-invasion Iraq. Mac Skelton (Johns Hopkins, Dept. of Anthropology) works with Iraqi families undergoing cancer treatments in Beirut, Lebanon.
