Busboys and Poets turns 21 this year, and we want you to help us celebrate!
We’ll be hosting our annual Boozy Book Fair on September 11, 2026, at Busboys and Poets Takoma!
We’ll have a specially curated selection of books and gifts for book connoisseurs, home librarians, and anyone who remembers the thrill of receiving newsprint catalogs filled with everything available at an upcoming book fair.
You’ll also have chances to win prizes with each purchase. All books will be 10% off exclusively at the fair.
While we love our younger bookworms, all book fair attendees must be at least 21 years old.
For every $20 you spend, you’ll receive an entry into our mystery raffle and a chance to win a prize from the themed table of your choice. These tables will feature some of our favorite books across a mix of genres, along with gift items.
Raffle tickets will be drawn at 8:00 PM.

Busboys and Poets is a restaurant, bar, bookstore, and community gathering place. First established in 2005, Busboys and Poets was founded by owner Andy Shallal (@andyshallal), an artist, activist, and restaurateur.
After the flagship location opened at 14th and V Streets NW in Washington, DC, neighboring residents and the progressive community embraced Busboys and Poets—particularly activists opposed to the Iraq War. Busboys and Poets is now located in eight distinctive neighborhoods throughout the Washington, DC, metropolitan area.
Busboys and Poets is a cultural hub for artists, activists, writers, thinkers, and dreamers.
We have a deep commitment to showcasing local and national books and authors who contribute to conversations about significant social struggles. Prominently featuring the Black struggle for civil rights, this commitment also extends to women’s and LGBTQ+ liberation and, more broadly, to the experiences of dispossessed and marginalized people throughout the country.
Our programs create a cultural hub for artists, writers, activists, thinkers, and dreamers, and we want everyone to leave feeling refreshed and full of love. We welcome all authors, including those who are just getting their feet wet here at Busboys and Poets.
