Description:

Brown, Goldstein & Levy and partner Jacqueline Cadman, head of BGL’s Criminal Defense Section, are honored to host nationally recognized civil rights attorney Alec Karakatsanis, founder of Civil Rights Corps and author of Copaganda: How Police and the Media Manipulate Our News, for a meaningful discussion on how media is used to fuel mass incarceration.

Mr. Karakatsanis will be joined by Zeteo political correspondent and columnist Prem Thakker for a discussion on the role of media in shaping narratives about crime, the systemic harms caused by “Copaganda,” and the pathways toward dismantling mass incarceration. At Zeteo, Mr. Thakker focuses on US politics, civil rights, foreign policy, corruption, and the environment.

This event will be held at Busboys and Poets at 14th and V on December 4. A reception and happy hour will be from 5-6:30pm, followed by the book event from 6:30-8pm. It will provide legal professionals, advocates, and community leaders with valuable insights into the intersection of media, public perception, and the criminal legal system.

This discussion is part of a series aimed at solving social problems and is presented by Brown Goldstein & Levy’s Criminal Defense Section. Audience participation is encouraged.

RSVP by emailing Andi McIver at amciver@browngold.com.
