Description:

Join us for The WRITE to VOTE, an open mic night where poetry becomes both a rally and a bridge

Event Description

Many of us are feeling it — deep in our bones, in our breath, in the unpredictable rhythm of the moment.

Join us for The WRITE to VOTE, an open mic night where poetry becomes both a rally and a bridge. This is a space to speak truth, to stir hearts, and to stay energized through the power of words.

With local and national elections right around the corner, now’s the time to reflect, connect, and activate. Bring poems that echo across time — reflections on the past, visions of the future, and urgent calls to action for today.

Let’s gather, share lessons, and write our way toward change.
Your voice matters — and your WRITE to vote begins with your right to speak out.

$ 5.00 + Tax and fees online. $8.00 (tax and fees included) at the door.

Sign up to share your poem, or simply come ready to listen, feel, and be moved.

🖊️ Because the pen is still mightier than the ballot — and together, we can write the change we need.

🎤 Host: Dr. Rebecca Dupas

Dr. Rebecca Dupas performed her first original poem at age 18 and, by her early twenties, was co-hosting what was then the longest-running weekly open mic in Baltimore City. Two decades later, she has become a Baltimore Legend Award recipient and was named Baltimore’s 2024 Renaissance Woman of the Year, alongside multiple honors across DC and beyond.

A Louisiana native now based in the DMV, Dr. Dupas is an accomplished multidisciplinary artist celebrated for her vulnerability, relatability, and community impact. Her career and writing have been featured on C-SPAN, PBS, WEAA, Sirius XM, The Washington Post, The Afro, Baltimore’s Artscape, and the DC Black Film Festival.

With over 20 years of experience in writing commissioned works, live performance, curation, and workshop facilitation, she has created innovative artist-development projects such as The Harvest Society (an online writer’s circle), Body of Work (a solo-artist showcase), and The Baltimore Host Retreat (a community training event for hosts in the DMV).

She has published seven books, including Somebody Else’s Blues (the novel, journal, and open-mic experience), Not Without Black Women, and the children’s book Mario Goes to the Museum — all exploring themes central to the Black experience.

Beyond her artistry, Dr. Dupas serves as a Program Manager and Director of Education, leading work rooted in social justice and human rights.
