Celebrate Juneteenth through the Power of Poetry

Join us at Busboys and Poets for Freedom to Express: Juneteenth Poetry Slam, a powerful evening of spoken word honoring Black freedom, resilience, and the ongoing fight for justice. On this historic day, we uplift voices that celebrate liberation, confront oppression, and imagine a world rooted in equity and joy.

Poets will take the stage to compete for a $200 cash prize in a high-energy slam where the audience chooses the winner. Come for the community, stay for the creativity.

Full food and bar service available throughout the event.

Tickets

  • $5.00 + tax and fees (online)
  • $8.00 at the door (tax and fees included)

Wristbands can be purchased online starting at midnight or in-person at the restaurant beginning at 10:00 AM. Limit 4 per person. Wristbands must be worn to enter. No refunds.

Slam Rules

  • Arrival: Poets must arrive 30 minutes before showtime.
  • Original Work Only
  • Time Limit: 3 minutes + 10-second grace period
  • No Props, Costumes, or Instruments
  • Solo Performances Only
  • Reading from Devices is Allowed (but not as props)
  • 6 Poets Eliminated After Round One
