Description:

Join us as we reflect and honor the life of Dick Gregory with his daughter, Ayanna Gregory in conversation with author Dr. E. Faye Williams!

Author, activist, and renaissance man, Richard Claxton “Dick” Gregory was one of the pioneering satirists of his generation, a reformer and brilliant spokesperson for the downtrodden and forgotten who dedicated his life to speaking unadulterated truth—as well a mission to improve our ordinary lives. Known for his deep respect of human rights, Gregory’s work was to not only educate souls, but to liberate them. Lauded bestselling author Dick Gregory’s words shaped a generation, and remains vital even today in our turbulent political climate. His son, Christian Gregory, put together a new compelling volume of Dick Gregory’s writings in THE ESSENTIAL DICK GREGORY.

This new anthology of selected writings from Dick Gregory reflects and celebrates his wisdom and vision, taking care to reflect this through three sections– Body, Mind, and Spirit. With previously unavailable transcriptions and excerpts taken from his sixteen books, fifteen albums and audio compilations, and more than 1,200 hours of archival footage, this is the essential tour through the life of one of America’s most prophetic and relevant cultural icons. Joining us to celebrate this new release is Dr. E Faye Williams, author of DICK GREGORY WAKE UP AND STAY WOKE: RUNNING FOR LIFE.

Dr. Williams and Ayanna Gregory are joining us on Busboys stage for a celebration of Dick Greogry on what would have been his 90th Birthday!  The microphone will be open for stories and reflections from the audience.

This event is free and open to all. Our program begins at 6:00 pm. Copies of THE ESSENTIAL DICK GREGORY and DICK GREGORY WAKE UP AND STAY WOKE will be available for purchase before and during the event.

Please note that this event will not be live-streamed.

We ask that guests RSVP in order to receive direct updates about the event from Busboys and Poets Books.

Dr. E Faye Williams is a United Nations Peace Ambassador, an accomplished attorney, entrepreneur, civic leader and activist. She is a proud educator and Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. With a law degree from Howard University, she has worked as legal counsel to the United States Congress, local, state and the federal governments, is an EEOC mediator and is a professor of international law.
