Description:

Busboys and Poets Books Presents FUGITIVE DREAMS

Join us as we explore a personal documentary depicting the last half- century of Palestine and immigrant experiences.

Author Ramsey Hanhan's new book FUGITIVE DREAMS is a slightly fictionalized literary memoir illustrating a sweeping 50 years of life under occupation through personal stories. Born in Palestine ‘on the “wrong” side of the border,’ Sameer finds his way to America to rebuild his life. His immigrant experience in post-9/11 America is laced to the ongoing conflict at home with the common threads of school shootings, police violence, human rights abuses, activism, and walls. For the sake of his daughter, he decides he must do something.

Ramsey Hanhan is joining us on the Busboys stage to celebrate this new release. They will be joined in conversation by Katherine Metres Akbar.

This event is free and open to all. Our program begins at 6:00 pm, and will be followed by an audience Q&A. Copies of FUGITIVE DREAMS will be available for purchase before and during the event. Please note that this event will not be livestreamed.

We ask that guests RSVP in order to receive direct updates about the event from Busboys and Poets Books.

Ramsey Hanhan is author of Fugitive Dreams, a personal memoir illustrating a sweeping 50 years of Palestine under occupation. He writes to transcend culture, speak for the voiceless, and uncover the beauty of the ordinary. Prior, he was a physics professor noted for his computer models that describe and predict complexity in nature. Nowadays, you can find him on a jogging trail, deep in the forest, at an airport, or in a coffee shop. For his next titles, he is finishing a romantic novella and a collection of essays. Hanhan holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Michigan.

Katherine Metres Akbar is the founder, president, and interview coach of YES Career Coaching & Resume Writing Services, one of Washington metro’s two top-rated career success companies. She is also the founder and chair of Person2Person International, a nonprofit dedicated to building understanding, friendship, solidarity, and activism by Americans in partnership with Palestinians, Salvadorans, and Iranians. She served as a U.S. diplomat in Mauritania and Italy, spent two years doing humanitarian work on the West Bank, and was the New York executive director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor and a Master of International Affairs focused on human rights and the Middle East from Columbia University.
