Why so serious?! If you are like us, you have found it hard to find things to laugh about. Working to change the world is grueling and daunting work, but the pursuit of happiness is what we are fighting for! So we are making time to LAUGH! Busboys and Poets is pleased to introduce COMEDY NIGHT in Takoma!
Produced by Allan Sidley:
A comedian, improviser and lyricist, Allan is a jack off all trades. Allan's humor is dry, and a little wet from perspiration, usually. He pokes fun at Jews, mostly his Mom & Grandma, and dissects cultural taboos like online dating while balding or being a great +1 for a funeral. Often serious with hints of silly, Allan manages to keep dark topics light-hearted and his audiences on their toes (so stretch your calves). His comedy has been described as, "great for first dates."
He's opened (the door for) Sinbad, and toured throughout Eastern Europe in the summer of 2011 (not for comedy, just a fun fact). He did however recently feature at Cozzys Comedy Club, and was a member of the Unkosher Comedy Tour. In addition to running comedy shows at Busboys & Poets in Takoma, Shirlington, and 14th & V, he manages the Tysons Comedy Cellar and shows under his production company Sidley Standup.
Comedians:
Fernando Madrigal: Born in the Dominican Republic, Fernando legally immigrated to the US at the age of 4. Raised in Wheaton, Maryland he shares his experiences and perspective as an Afro-Latino to speak on all matters ranging from politics, dating, trap music, classic cinema, trashy reality TV, and historical events. He has performed at esteemed venues like the DC Improv & Magooby's Joke House; opening for national touring comedians such as Sean Donnelly, Roy Wood Jr. and Jordan Rock. He also runs Hannah's Basement, a fun monthly stand-up house-show in Wheaton.
Monica Daly: Monica Daly is a NoVA local and an Army veteran. She has performed across the DMV from the Ottobar, DC Improv, and Lost Rhino. She recently performed at StandUpNY! As well as the USO. She is also part of the teaching team for the Armed Services Arts Partnership Comedy Boot Camp.
Winston Hodges: Winston Hodges is from a small town called Farmville in rural Virginia. He has spent his time working comedy clubs with his southern charm and edgy wit. You can hear him discussing growing up in a Christian home, race, religion, and working with children who have special needs all while providing a fun and energetic take on all the things we want to say but never do. He performs regularly at the DC Improv.
