Come watch our first Youth Poetry Slam Qualifier of the season as students from across the DMV compete for a chance to rank among the globe's top youth poets and emcees!
Poets/MCs will compete to qualify for the team traveling to Las Vegas this July as part of the WBL DMV Slam Team. Team members will receive travel, accomidations, festival registration and a stipend of $200 each.
Slam rules: all participants must be 13-19-years-old at the time of the slam and come prepared with two original pieces (do not have to be memorized) not exceeding the length of 3 minutes and 30 seconds, one poem perround. Participants are not allowed to use props, costumes, or accompanying music. The top 4 will be invited to compete in our Grand Slam Finals for a chance to be on the 2019 Words Beats & Life DMV team traveling to Brave New Voices in Las Vegas this July!
