A Busboys and Poets event hosted this week by Alexa Patrick

Alexa Patrick is a singer and poet from Connecticut. She is a graduate of American University, where she studied Psychology, African-American and African Diaspora Studies, and Spanish. Alexa is a Cave Canem Fellow, and holds teaching positions through Split This Rock, The University of the District of Columbia, and the Center for Creative Youth at Wesleyan University. She is the current head coach of the award-winning DC Youth Slam Team, and has also coached the slam teams of American University and George Washington University for the College Union Poetry Slam Invitational. You may find Alexa's work published in CRWN Magazine and The BreakBeat Poets Vol. 2: Black Girl Magic.

FEATURING: JAMAL RASHAD

jamal rashad (washington dc) is a Black Queer, an optimist when careful, a massage therapist, and poet. He has received a fellowship from The Watering Hole Poetry. His work has been featured in the 2019 OUTWRITE literary journal, Cafe Con Leche, Radar Productions, Maji Press, Argot Magazine,and Against Equality. He is formerly a fiction editor for African Voices Magazine. Currently, he is serving as the poetry and fiction editor for Love, Pain & Poetry Publishing (LP&P). His most recent project, “Imagoes: A Queer Anthology” (LP&P) was published in July 2019.

For two hours, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices, and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear.

$5 cover. Wristbands are available for purchase online at midnight and in the restaurant starting at 10:00 AM (cash only). No refunds. Ticket purchase limit of 4 per person. Guests must have their wristbands (tickets) on upon entering the event.

Seating is available on a first come, first seated basis. No saved or reserved seats are allowed. Failure to check in within 30 minutes of advertised start time may result in forfeiture of seats.
