A Busboys and Poets event hosted this week by Morgan Butler
Morgan “Momo da Mermaid” Butler is a witchy writer, educator, and interdisciplinary atist from Washington, D.C. Her work primarily focuses on cultivating healing spaces for femmes of color in white/masc/het-dominated spaces, specifically through creative writing and radical healing. A 2018 Loft Literary Center Spoken Word Immersion Fellow, she has performed for TedxFoggyBottom, TV One’s Verses and Flow and has been welcomed into spaces at The White House, The Kennedy Center and the National Museum of African-American History and Culture. As an educator, she has led two workshops at Harvard University’s Alumni of Color Conference and has taught sessions on peace education and creative writing throughout the D.C, Maryland, Virginia area. Momo identifies as a queer, genderfluid femme, with she/they pronouns.

As an homage to her grandmother, the original Valentine Brown, Jona Monét fulfills her legacy as a songwriter and musician by bringing us sounds reminiscent of her ancestry with a new age twist. Her soulful sounds will woo you but her lyrical content will move you. Jona Monet shares her creativity, love for esoteric wisdom, and word play embodied as Valentine Brown through song. Sharing stories to uplift, and enlighten all those who listen.

For two hours, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear.
$5 Cover. No refunds. Ticket purchase limit of 4 per person. Guests must have their wristbands (tickets) on upon entering the event.
Seating is available on a first come, first seated basis. No saved or reserved seats are allowed. Failure to check in within 30 minutes of advertised start time may result in a forfeiture of seats.
