Description:

Please join us at Busboys and Poets for a discussion of Dr. Austin's latest book, The Caribbeanization of Black Politics: Race, Group Consciousness, and Political Participation in America. In the book, Dr. Austin examines social and political relationships among African Americans, Cape Verdeans, Haitians and West Indians in Boston, Chicago, Miami, and New York City. Dr. Austin will discuss politics in the city of Boston and the political conflicts and coalitions among native born and foreign born blacks there. The main questions she will address are, Is there group solidarity among them? If so, how does this solidarity impact their political activities?

*The book will be available for purchase at the event.
