Description:

Driven initially by Cold War angst and meteorological forecasting in the early 1960s, satellite imagery has since become a staple of modernity. In the past decade or so, imagery from a variety of overhead and other high-tech sensors has become available to non-government end users. And some, including John Amos and Paul Woods, partners in their nonprofit firm SkyTruth, have turned to these sources as tools for increasing transparency. By illuminating environmental problems and issues through the use of satellite images, as well as with aerial photographs and other kinds of remote sensing and digital mapping techniques, Amos, Woods and their colleagues are leveraging what once were government-exclusive intelligence-gathering assets for the cause of environmental conservation. Join Amos and Woods for a discussion that will add a vertical dimension to your usual perspective on the world.

Free and open to the public.
