Description:

A Busboys and Poetry Event! For two hours, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians, and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all, come with an open mind and ear.

Tonight's host is Patrick Washington

Forged in Washington DC's now legendary U Street Poetry Scene, Patrick Washington has consistently proven himself a master of spoken word / hip hop fusion.  The 4 time DC representative at NPS and2001?s Washington DC Def Poetry Slam Champion became a semi-regular performer onHBO presents Russell Simmons Def Poetry, along with his right-hand man natural law DP, as one of spoken words most dynamic duos, ThePOEM-CEES

In 2009, he was hired by Tavis Smiley to narrate his national museum exhibit, ?America I Am? which was seen by over a million people, and as part of the POEM-CEES, he was honored to write and perform an original piece along with Grammy-winning violinist Miri Ben-Ari for the dedication of theMartin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, sharing the stage with Stevie Wonder & President Obama, among others on October 16th 2011.

The U Street activist still abiding within, he remains a constant presence representing for artists rights, and as a teaching artist for Words Beats & Life & The American Poetry Museum, Patrick enjoys conducting poetry/hip-hop workshops with young people locally & nationally, spreading his love for the spoken, written & the rhythmic word.

$5 cover. Wristbands are available for purchase online here at midnight prior to the event, and on-site at Teaching of Change from 10:00 AM until sold out. Limit 4 wristbands per person. Sorry, no refunds.

Seating is available on a first come, first seated basis. No saved or reserved seats are allowed. Failure to check in within 30 minutes of advertised start time may result in a forfeiture of seats.
