Busboys and Poet's gender and sexuality series ZAMI + Honey Groove present an evening of poetry and music with D.C. artists.Â
The night will feature poetry performances by Be Steadwell and Huggie and poetry by Samantha G.Â
This event is sold out, but the next ZAMI with Be Steadwell will be on February 26th.Â
Be Steadwell is a songwriter from Washington, DC. Redefining the love song in a modern context-Be's unapologetic content focuses on love between women. Â
Be's playful lyrics and soulful voice will make you cry one moment, then laugh the next. In her live performances, she utilizes loop pedal vocal layering and beat boxing to compose her songs on stage.
Be has performed at the Apollo Music Cafe (2014), toured internationally with the Revival tours (2012 and 2014), performed at Toshi Reagon's "Word Rock & Sword Festival" (2013-2014) and composed music for the feature film "Stud Life" (2013).
Huggie Huggster has been around music most of his life. Huggie was born on February 9th in Charlotte, NC. He has played various instruments throughout his school years to finally settle into guitar. After about a year of performing at open mics in DC, he met Dappho and was asked to jam with the newly forming CooLots. When Huggie is not playing or singing, he enjoys watching MMA events and general tomfoolery.
Samantha G is a DC born poet and vocalist with a penchant for jazz and magic. Her willingness to bare all before a crowd turns all of her performances into unofficial therapy for both her and her audience. For Samantha, there's no safer space than the bindings of a notebook and she hopes that you too can find shelter in her words--if only for a moment.
ASL interpretation provided.
