Busboys and Poets and DC+Acumen invite you to this month's Social Innovation Lab: Disrupting Islamophobia Through Media Literacy. The evening will feature Sarah Harvard, a local critically acclaimed journalist published in Slate, Salon, VICE, and the Huffington Post, as well as activists and entrepreneurs who will speak on how they combat the Islamophobia that plagues mainstream and social media. Attendees will also participate in a workshop where they will learn practical skills on how to identify and effectively respond to stereotypical media images.
The Social Innovation Lab is a collaborative effort between Busboys & Poets, DC+Acumen, and Social Solutions. The Social Innovation Lab brings together individuals from a variety of backgrounds to build a community that designs innovative solutions to social problems. The Social Innovation Lab covers a variety of topics, and is presented in a variety of form such as: artistic performances, workshops, panel discussions, and community forums. Social Innovation Lab takes place the fourth Sunday of every month at Busboys & Poets Brookland. The event is free and open to the public- register here.Â
