A Busboys and Poetry Event hosted this week by Jonathan B. Tucker
Jonathan B. Tucker lives in Washington, DC, melding art and activism with his work as a performer and educator. He has represented DC at the National Poetry Slam twice on the Busboys and Poets 11th Hour Slam Team (‘09 & ‘10) and is frequently working in schools and community organizations leading workshops on spoken word poetry. Youth Programs Coordinator for Split This Rock, JBT coaches the DC Youth Slam Team and organizes the monthly Youth Open Mic Series at Busboys and Poets 5th & K. His poetry has appeared in Howard University's Amistad Journal and has disappeared in many illustrious places as well. His book I Got the Matches is traveling the streets, back alleys, and www.jonathanbtucker.com right now. When not teaching your children or inspiring a movement, JBT enjoys inspiring dance moves as DJ PhenomeJon and eating copious amounts of noodles.
For two hours, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear.
$5 Cover. On the day of the event, tickets can be purchased online here starting at midnight and in the restaurant starting at 10:00 AM (cash only). No refunds. Ticket purchase limit of 4 per person. Tickets will be sold at the door if available. Guests must have their wristbands (tickets) on upon entering the event.
Seating is available on a first come, first seated basis. No saved or reserved seats are allowed. Failure to check in within 30 minutes of advertised start time may result in a forfeiture of seats. Â
