Politics & Prose at Busboys and Poets, 14th & V, presents Leonard Pitts, Jr. to discuss his new novel Grant Park.
In his third novel, Pitts, author of Freeman and a nationally syndicated columnist who won a 2004 Pulitzer Prize for commentary, draws on both the social issues that make news and on the interactions among the writers, editors, and staff who work in the news business. When a veteran black columnist goes over his younger white editor’s head to publish an embittered piece in response to the latest incident of racial violence, both men lose their jobs and Pitts constructs a dramatic, telling narrative juxtaposing events surrounding the 1968 King assassination and the eve of the 2008 Obama inauguration.
