Politics & Prose at Busboys and Poets 14th & V welcomes Robert W. McChesney and John Nichols to discuss the new book "People Get Ready: The Fight Against a Jobless Economy and a Citizenless Democracy."
Nichols, a commentator on TV and in print, associate editor of The Capital Times, and The Nation’s Washington correspondent, and McChesney, the author of some twenty books, a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and, with Nichols, co-founder of Free Press, cast a critical eye over the digital revolution. Showing that the new era is replacing human workers with technology, the authors warn about a coming “jobless economy†that, given the government’s reluctance to intervene until a crisis, and politicians’ attention to wealthy donors at the expense of the rest of the population, could lead to a “citizenless democracy.†Their argument isn’t with technology, but with unlimited capitalism.
