REACT: A PANEL DISCUSSION ON DIVERSITY AND QUEER SPACES
co-sponsored by Busboys and Poets' gender and sexuality series ZAMI
There has been an elephant in the room for many years in our LGBTQ spaces, having some people asking, "Why are our spaces so segregated?" Many of these spaces are segregated by gender, race, culture, and socioeconomic status. However, we have seen successful events that shatter the norm and embrace diversity. This open discussion asks: Has this become the new normal in our lesbian and queer spaces? The panel will also explore the "secret ingredient" to creating diverse spaces.
Panelists include: Ashlee Nikole of LezLink, Jay Barber of Jay Walking Productions, Kate Ross of Coven DC, Em Jay of TMS Entertainment, and a representative from the LGBTQ Latino/a History Project. The discussion is also supported by other lesbian and queer organizers like the Ivy Project, LezLink, Tagg Magazine, TASTE, Tezrah Productions, WhiskHER, and ZAMI, with more promoters signing on to be a part of the discussion.Â
