Description:

The A.C.T.O.R. (A Continuing Talk on Race) open discussion series is hosted by Busboys and Poets as a community service. It provides the opportunity for people to come together and speak openly and honestly about issues of race. The intent is that each person walks away from the discussion feeling something: challenged, educated, uncomfortable, enlightened, refreshed, reassured and hopefully inspired and moved to action! Each month there is a new topic for discussion.

This month's topic: Perceptions and Practice.  Is Yoga only for white people?

Have you ever walked into a yoga class and been the only person of color (POC) in the room?

Do you actively seek out spaces where you can take a pause, remove your mask, and simply be?

"Yoga and Race" will be a 2-part series and partnership between Yoga District and Busboys and Poets that includes yoga practice and honest dialogue.

Join us in a practice followed by a discussion with several local yogis of color!

Sunday, July 30, 5:30pm-7:30 pm, at YOGA DISTRICT COLUMBIA HEIGHTS:

In this 2-hour workshop, we will do a gentle, beginner-friendly yoga practice and meditation with other self-identified POCs (and anyone who celebrates and honors the need for such safe spaces) for the first hour and will spend the second hour talking about yoga and race in a compassionate environment.

Led by a diverse group of Yoga District instructors and community members, this workshop will build meaningful connections through shared mindfulness and dialogue.

Busboys and Poets will provide vegan treats for the post-practice discussion. This workshop is inspired in part by Busboys and Poets' A.C.T.O.R. (A Continuing Talk on Race).

All workshop activities, mat rental, and vegan snacks are included in registration fee. A portion of the workshop proceeds will support Yoga Activist's outreach programs, ranging from free classes in detention centers and schools to mat donations supporting worldwide access to yoga.

Please e-mail simone@yogadistrict.com with questions.

RSVP REQUIRED - $22.69 with proceeds to Yoga Activist - 20 max attendees
