Join us for an evening of art and conversation with extraordinary London-based artist Aadil Abedi, who is fusing Arabic calligraphy with contemporary brushstrokes to transform Rumi’s poetry and spiritual verses into inspiring masterpieces. Aadil’s art melds East and West, ancient and modern, vibrant and elegant to produce paintings that are truly unique. His latest collection, “Hope”, will be on display at Busboys on 14th and V from late October until February 2018.
At a time when even the sight of Arabic writing is creating fear in some, Aadil sees this as an opportunity to reveal the beauty of the script and make it more relatable and accessible. “Given the current climate, it’s even more important to showcase that there is something beautiful in our art and culture,” Aadil says. His pieces are an invitation for conversation, a chance to ask questions, to consider the meaning of Quranic verses and Sufi themes, and to gain a deeper understanding through a medium that connects and resonates.
Aadil’s work has been showcased in Dubai, London, New York, Chicago, Montreal, Sydney and Mumbai, and has been commissioned by well-known personalities such as Bollywood royalty Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and royal families in the Middle East.
He will be in conversation with one of the most exciting writers and speakers on the American Muslim experience, Wajahat Ali. Wajahat is a journalist, writer, lawyer, award-winning playwright, and an Op-Ed contributor to the New York Times.
