Please join Busboys and Poets Books in a book launch celebration for What Is Light?, a new children's board book by local broadcast journalist and award-winning talk show host Markette Sheppard. This free, all-ages launch party will feature (surprise!) guest appearances by children's performer 123 Andrés, winner of the 2016 Latin Grammy Award for Best Children's Album, and an interactive musical experience for children by renowned drummer and percussionist Devin Walker (The Uncle Devin Show).
The first board book from the award-winning Denene Millner Books line, What Is Light? is a gorgeous, engaging celebration of the sparkle found in a child's simple but extraordinary world. Sheppard's lyrical, read-aloud text is accompanied by crisp, cheerful illustrations by award-winning children's book illustrator Cathy Ann Johnson, who uses her art to celebrate the human family in all its diversity.
This is the first book from Markette Sheppard, whose work has been featured on NBC’s Today Show and ABC’s Live! with Kelly; in Essence magazine; and on NPR. She lives in the heart of Washington, DC, with her husband and young son.
Denene Millner Books is a children’s book line published under Agate’s Bolden Books imprint, which is devoted to the work of African American writers, in partnership with Denene Millner, the noted parenting authority, editor, and New York Times bestselling author.
