Description:

Please join Busboys and Poets Books as we welcome author Dr. Helena Dolny to 5th and K to discuss her book "Before Forever After."

Why did Helena write a book about death-in-life conversations for everyone - from the young and healthy to the elderly, becoming fragile? Why is it so important to have many different conversations about how we want to live and what matters to us when we die? Daniel Musiitwa founder of the African Book club will introduce Helena and talk to her about how this book came into being. Then you’ll hear Helena’s beautiful reading of “Pa’s story” illustrating the importance of having life-long conversations. Finally, Daniel will lead a Q&A session with the audience.

Archbishop Tutu sponsored her, “This taboo about not talking about dying needs to be challenged.” Azania Mosaka, South African talk show host hails this book as “a gift to the world”. Mental health clinician Michael Solomon posted on Goodreads,” this is a landmark publication” a new Kubler Ross for the 21st century.

The triumph of this book is to make talking about death ultimately life-enhancing.

Dr.Helena Dolny consistently works with issues that speak to both intellect and heart. She completed her PhD on land markets and their relevance to land reform, which lead to her appointment by then President Nelson Mandela in 1997 as CEO of the Land Bank. There she discovered the challenge of leadership and institutional transformation so essential to achieving change in society. She retooled by completing a Master in Executive Coaching. She coaches individuals and teams and teaches at a Henley business school.

Her other work is talking and writing about why it is important to live a life in which we consciously and continuously engage with our mortality. She believes this results in less suffering, less familial conflict, increased longevity, reduced end-of-life expenditure and more joy. She asserts that significant shift in society will only come to fruition if there are changes in the curriculum design, training and practice of several different professions.

This is event is co-sponsored by Africa Book Club. Books will be available before and after the event. Please contact books@busboysandpoets.com with questions. PLEASE RSVP HERE.
