Description:

A Busboys and Poetry Event hosted this week by Dwayne B

Dwayne Lawson-Brown aka the “Crochet Kingpin” is a homegrown DC native poet, activist, break-dancer, and fashion designer. Dwayne has been known to write a pretty good haiku in his day which has lead to him win the Best Haiku Award at the 2011 National Underground Spoken-Word Poetry Awards (NUSPA), and his work to increase HIV awareness through the spoken-word community garnered recognition from the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, BBCAmerica, the Discovery Channel, and the Washington Post. Ultimately his goal is to make the audience feel something, and he’s always met his goal! When not documenting his life through poetic meter, he can be found on the metro making scarves and hats, or singing karaoke.

For two hours, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices, and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear.

$5 cover. Wristbands are available for purchase online here at midnight and in the restaurant starting at 10:00 AM (cash only). No refunds. Ticket purchase limit of 4 per person. Tickets will be sold at the door if available. Guests must have their wristbands (tickets) on upon entering the event.

Seating is available on a first come, first seated basis. No saved or reserved seats are allowed. Failure to check in within 30 minutes of advertised start time may result in forfeiture of seats.
