Description:

A Busboys and Poetry event hosted this week by Twain Dooley

Mr. Dooley is affectionately known as "Uncle Twain" throughout the poetry and story telling communities. His wit and insight has tickled audiences since 1994. He has been on ten poetry slam teams, taught workshops, hosted events, and slain dragons. This married father of three wishes only to spread the funk throughout the land.

Tonight's Feature: Kimberly Jackson!

Born in New Orleans and transplanted to Baltimore via Hurricane Katrina, Kimberly is an actress, director, writer, educator, mother and business woman. She began her career in the arts attending New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts, moving on to received her Bachelor’s in Speech Communication/ Theatre Arts with a minor in Creative Writing, Master's in Education as well as certifications as a teacher and principal. While still in college she founded The PlayGround Children’s Theatre Company. Writing and directing children eventually morphed to teaching teachers how to teach using theater and a career in teaching and school administration. Kimberly has also served as a teacher, principal and founder of her passion project is The Ivy School--a proposed charter school for dyslexic children. Within the local poetry scene, she competes in slams and performs. She has not only featured at Busboys and Poets 5th & K, Mic Check and Giovanni's Room as well as spotlighted at Heard It Through the Grapevine but competed in DC's Beltway Slam semi and Baltimore's Speak Out Slammageddon finals. She released her first chapbook, The Fuckery Monologues, in 2015 and is currently working on her next project, a visual collection of poetry combining poetry, photography and performance.

For two hours, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices, and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear.
