Busboys & Poets Cafe - Takoma Park is pleased to co-host Roadwork’s 40th Anniversary Launch Party! Please join us as we celebrate 40 years and hear about our upcoming historic summer concert Sisterfire Concert at the 2018 Smithsonian Folklife Festival. Special guests: Ysaye Barnwell, In Process, and Alicia Partnoy. Roadwork Center has put women’s culture on the road from Sweet Honey In The Rock, and Holly Near, to the Sisterfire Festival, and more!Â
ROADWORK was founded in 1978 as a multiracial coalition that put women’s culture on the road. From Sweet Honey In The Rock to Holly Near, from Toshi Reagon to the Sisterfire Festival and more! Roadwork launched the Roadwork Oral History & Documentary Project in 2016. This multi-year and multimedia project aims to document this legacy to inspire next generations of resister-activists, and produce up-coming historic summer concert at the 2018 Smithsonian Folklife Festival.
