Description:

A Busboys and Poets event hosted this week by Lissa Piercey

Lissa Piercy is a performance poet, educator, and social entrepreneur based in Washington, DC. She holds Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Wheelock College and a certificate in Social Entrepreneurship from Watson University.

As a poet, Lissa has joined forces with individuals across various fields, both within the United States and Internationally, to use poetry as a catalyst for conversation and change. She has performed everywhere from the United Nations Headquarters to the Boston Pride Main Stage to protests, classrooms, weddings, and conferences. Lissa is a MassLEAP trained teaching artist, a TEDx speaker, and a member of the 2017 Beltway Poetry Slam Team.

As an entrepreneur, Lissa has co founded multiple arts organizations, conferences, and events, including performance collective Flatline Poetry, social justice poetry shows Performance With Purpose and Speakers Up, and artist management company Strength of Doves (SD). Lissa now works as the Director of SD, supporting social justice focused artists in earning a living wage while creating change through their art.

Lissa believes in curating spaces where all voices are valued, and in using art to bridge divides across communities.

For two hours, audiences can expect a diverse chorus of voices, and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear.

$5 cover. Wristbands are available for purchase online at midnight and in the restaurant starting at 10:00 AM (cash only). No refunds. Ticket purchase limit of 4 per person. Guests must have their wristbands (tickets) on upon entering the event.

Seating is available on a first come, first seated basis. No saved or reserved seats are allowed. Failure to check in within 30 minutes of advertised start time may result in forfeiture of seats.
