Busboys and Poets’ Director of Poetry Events (D.O.P.E) and DC SCORES Director of Writing, Charity Blackwell is a spoken word artist, host, emcee, and poetry specialist. A Trinity University graduate, she received her B.A and M.A. in Communications. Charity’s natural stage presence and charm have earned her hosting accolades, at events including Poetry SLAMS for DC SCORES (2013-2016), the America SCORES New York National Poetry SLAM! (2015 -2016), Busboys and Poets Open Mics (2016-Current), the Our Words Our City Poetry Showcase (2017), the Women’s March Open Mic (2017), and many more. She has performed original work on international networks including the BBC and throughout the East Coast. She is currently working on her first book of poems. Charity hosts Open Mic Night every second Tuesday at Busboys and Poets 14th & V, along with the 11th Hour Poetry Slam, every second Friday of the month.
