In celebration of the 20-year anniversary of Busboys and Poets, we are thrilled to host a live recording of the WPFW 89.3 FM radio show The Collision: Sports and Politics on the Nicolas Guillen stage. Award-winning political sportswriter Dave Zirin, former Washington Wizards player and author Etan Thomas, and justice journalist and sportswriter Chuck Modiano will explore how sports, politics, and culture intersect and shape our communities.

Special guests Washington Wizards hall of famer and broadcaster Phil Chenier and former Wizards player Javaris Crittendon.

We ask that guests RSVP to receive direct updates about the event from Busboys and Poets.

Dave Zirin is the sports editor at The Nation, their first in over 150 years, and hosts Edge of Sports on The Real News Network. Named one of UTNE Reader’s “50 Visionaries Who Are Changing Our World,” Zirin has written eleven books on the politics of sports, including Jim Brown: Last Man Standing and the New York Times bestseller Things That Make White People Uncomfortable (co-authored with Michael Bennett). His work has appeared in publications such as The New York Times, Washington Post, and Los Angeles Times, and he has appeared on ESPN, MSNBC, CNN, and Democracy Now!.

Etan Thomas, a former eleven-year NBA player, is the author of multiple books, including We Matter: Athletes and Activism, More than an Athlete, Fatherhood: Rising to the Ultimate Challenge, and Voices of the Future. A senior writer for BasketballNews.com and regular contributor to The Guardian and The Undefeated, Thomas is also a frequent MSNBC correspondent and co-hosts The Collision with Dave Zirin. He has received the NBPA Community Contribution Award and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation Legacy Award for his advocacy work.

Chuck Modiano is a justice journalist and sportswriter, co-host of The Collision on WPFW (10 AM, Thursdays). He covers the intersections of sports, politics, and social justice and can be found online at WPFW, Mastodon @chuckmodi1, and Instagram @chuckmodi1
