Demie is one of our fab servers at Busboys and Poets. Here’s a little about him.
Where are you from and what brought you to DC?
I am originally from NW DC. After graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, I decided to move back to DC to perform in musical theater and stay connected to my family.
You go by the nicknames Demie Moore, Demie God, what’s the inspiration behind your many names?
My name Demie was inspired by the birth of my first nephew. I begged my sister to name him Demie. She stated, “That is nice, I will think about it!” Months later Markell came along. I asked my other siblings to name their children Demie, after the 4th nieces/nephews, I gave up (lol). The name stuck with me and i take pride in it. I use it when i perform and also for my social media platforms. Also, people used to say my name wrong so DEMIE helped. My real name is DEMITRUS not DEMETRIUS, just as a side note.
You sing, dance, make people laugh and do it all. Tell us about your creative background.
I absolutely love the arts. It has been a life changer for me, but also therapeutic. I started taking music serious in high school where I attended Duke Ellington School of the Arts here in DC. There I was introduced to Classical, Jazz and Musical Theatre. After high school I want to VCU for Vocal Performance. I like to consider myself a man of many trades. I love photography, creative writing, and video production. My ultimate goal is to be on Broadway. I am going to make it there so watch out for it <3!
Tell us something most people don’t know about you.
A lot of people don’t know that I am in love with scary movies. Its a problem! I would watch scary movies to the point that I can not sleep. I honestly don’t know why! The nightmare on Elm st. series still freak me out, but I still watch it. Also, I love shoes; from Jordans to Airmax, to adidas. I have a huge shoe collection.
What’s your #1 passion?
My number 1 passion is to perform in as many broadway shows as possible, and also one day host a huge television or awards show.
What do you like most about working at Busboys?
I love the freedom to be who you are without judgement.
If a customer was to ask you for a dish and drink recommendation, what would you tell them?
I always recommend the LEM/POM also the DC Tap Water. I also recommend the Fried Chicken and for dessert the Carrot Cake with the coconut ice cream.
It might not look like it, BUT I LOVE WORKING OUT! Running clears my mind and makes me feel like I am getting closer to my goal.
