In paying attention to the news lately, you may have noticed a point of tension between Bernie and Hillary: the Israel/Palestine conflict. Hillary and every Republican Candidate supports Israel without question, while Bernie contends that there is another side to this story, mirroring global debate that has sparked thousands to protest on all sides. This issue has received more attention in the past year after Black Lives Matter activists made statements of solidarity with the Palestinian Liberation movement. So, with this heightening attention, why do so few know about the nuances of this issue?
Matthew Wilke, a student at Wesley Theological Seminary, will help us understand this conflict’s roots, how it has been perpetuated, and the reasons why it is so difficult to solve. After studying in Jerusalem at the Hebrew University, Matthew visited Jews, Muslims, and Christians at over 30 peace organizations in order to better understand this conflict. Come and learn about an important issue as our country turns its focus back to this decades long conflict.
Grab a drink, pull up a chair, and join us as we talk about life, faith, philosophy, and deep questions of meaning.
