Old Schools: The Birth of Hip-Hop Culture in the U.S. and France discussion presented by Alliance Française de Washington. Alain-Philippe Durand, French born professor of U.S. and French hip-hop cultures at the University of Arizona, accompanied by Junious "House" Brickhouse, urban dance expert and founder/director of Urban Artistry, will discuss the rise of hip-hop in two distinctly unique cultures. Exploring how American hip-hop emerged and influenced the French urban scene, and how French dancers adapted this dance with other influences, they will speak about mutual inspiration in what is now a worldwide art form.$5 Suggested Donation (cash at door)
