Nine on the Ninth Open Mic Poetry featuring Mahogany Browne
14th & V | Langston | May 09,2012 | 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm

The Nine On The Ninth is a now legendary monthly poetry series that debuted back in October 2005. It's a feature driven format, which means, the feature opens the show and the open mic follows. We do this to make sure you get the full effect of each and every specially selected feature we bring to the Langston Room stage.

Tonight's featured poet is Mahogany L Browne

The Cave Canem Fellow is the Editor of the women's anthology His Rib: Stories, Poems & Essays by HER and author of several books including Swag, and her most recent book,#Dear Twitter:Love Letters Hashed Out Online In 140 Characters Or Less.  She has released five LPs including the live album Sheroshima. As co-founder of the Off Broadway poetry production, Jam On It, and co-producer of NYC's 1st Performance Poetry Festival: SoundBites Poetry Festival, Mahogany bridges the gap between lyrical poets and literary emcee. Her freelance journalism can be found in magazines Uptown, KING, XXL, The Source, Canada's The Word and UK's MOBO. She facilitates performance poetry and writing workshops throughout the country, focusing on women empowerment and youth mentoring. She is the publisher of Penmanship Books, a small press for performance artists and ownsPoetCD.Com, an on-line marketing and distribution company for poets. Mahogany is currently the slam host & curator of the Friday Night Slam Series at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe.

Immediately following the feature we hold a 10 to 15 minute nine question interview and audience Q&A with the artist that we call the BluePrint Sessions, before we finally slip into the limited open mic to close out the event. Thus you get a full show and have your appetite for people and poetry satisfied.

$5 Admission. Tickets available online beginning at Midnight!
