Busboys and Poets Books Presents: Scott Shapiro
5th & K | Cullen Room | November 2, 2017 | 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Please join Busboys and Poets Books as we welcome author Scott Shapiro to our 5th and K location to discuss his new book.

"The Internationalists: How a Radical Plan to Outlaw War Remade the World", details the vital role played by intellectuals, politicians and peace activists in the attempt to dismantle the war system and promote world peace. And though many have dismissed the outlawry of war as an act of folly, he argues that this understanding is inaccurate. The book shows that the Peace Pact was among the most important events in modern history and has sustained a march toward peace that lasts to this day.

One of the main reasons Shapiro wrote our book was not only to describe to the general public the story and success of the Peace Pact and the outlawry of war, but also to alert them to the dangers of the current political climate. He believes that the international community is now facing a perilous moment, when settled understandings about war and peace are being unmoored and the modern global order is unravelling. The book is a plea to return to the vision of the group of activists and thinkers he calls “The Internationalists” and to renew our commitment to their anti-war message.

Books will be available for purchase before and after the event.
