Just in time for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics, NPR books editor Parul Sehgal talks to Tania James (Atlas of Unknowns and the new story collection Aerogrammes) and Gary Younge about their new work Granta 119: Britain. James’s story of two brothers from Lahoreseeking fame as professional wrestlers in London 1910 shows the tension between what one is asked to sacrifice when pursing a dream and bonds to family and country. Younge writes about returning to his childhood home of Stevenage, a post-war town built on the optimism of a brighter future. This event is part of an international series that marks the launch of Granta 119: Britain. James’s story is extracted from her new collection Aerogrammes and Other Stories (Knopf, 2012).
