The International Solidarity Movement (ISM): Rachel Corrie & Beyond
ISM: Rachel Corrie & Beyond. If you are like most people, you first heard of the International Solidarity Movement when Rachel Corrie -- a 23-year-old volunteer from Olympia, WA -- was run over by an Israeli bulldozer and killed while protesting home demolitions in the Gaza Strip. But that was 7 years ago...Not only has the ISM refused to be intimidated by Israeli attempts to shut it down, but volunteers in both the West Bank and Gaza are increasingly coming from all age groups and walks of life. Telling their stories will be: Adam Shapiro, a human rights activist, documentary filmmaker and one of the co-founders for the ISM in Palestine, Pam Bailey and Keren Batiyov are both DC-area residents and Palestinian rights activists who defied stereotypes to become ISM volunteers after the age of 50. Pam and Keren are working to establish a DC/MD/VA-area ISM chapter and are looking for fellow volunteers! This event is FREE and OPEN to the public. Click here to add to your calendar |
